Like just about everything in life, much of Sanda kickboxing is all about timing. It’s important not to fall into a predictable rhythm so you can avoid your opponent anticipating your strikes. Here are a few basic drills to work on to break up your timing and avoid falling into a rhythm. You can also bait your opponent and get in their head to keep them guessing what’s coming next.
Fakes, faints, and phantom movements will not only keep your make your strikes less predictable, but also keep your hips loose. Remember, train the way you fight! When working these drills, be mindful of your strikes. Build the habit now and it will become second nature. Setting the proper intention while working even the most basic kickboxing drills can take your training to the next level!
